DPYB offers Select Baseball at all age divisions from 8u – 14u depending on player interest and coaching availability in each age division.  We hold ourselves and our program to a high standard and we will only form a team when it is appropriate.

WHAT IS SELECT?

Select baseball is the local equivalent of travel/club baseball.  We form teams of highly motivated players who exhibit the desire and talent to excel beyond our recreational program.  

WHAT DOES A SELECT SEASON LOOK LIKE?

Our select teams compete in both league and tournament play against other select and travel baseball teams from Orange County.  Our teams take part in a Fall/Winter season from August through November as well as Spring/Summer seasons from February through July.  Our teams play more games in the Spring than the Fall and older age groups will play more than the younger age groups.

We plan to offer select team opportunities for ages 8U-14u, depending on total division registration and interest at each division level.  If there is not enough interest at a given level or if we do not have a volunteer coach that can provide the level of coaching this program demands, we will not offer a team in that division.  

If your son or daughter is interested in playing on a DPYB Select team in the Spring or Fall, they must tryout.

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT?   The commitment is for one Season (Fall or Spring).  For 12U ONLY, the commitment is 12 months, Fall to Fall.  Why?  Because this will be DPYB's COOPERSTOWN TOURNAMENT TEAM, and they will spend a year planning and fundraising to compete in a week-long tournament against some of the best travel teams from across the country.

WHAT ARE THE AGE GROUPS FOR SELECT?  The Age Group for Select is the same a recreational divisions.  Can be found here https://www.dpyb.org/age-key

WHERE DO WE PLAY?  Typically we compete in the Irvine Pony Select League. Both local and destination tournaments will be played in most age groups and those costs will be the responsibility of the individual teams to cover

COST?  Select teams pay the same registration fees as the recreational division.  However, unlike the recreational division, Select players will be required to purchase their upgraded uniforms at an additional cost.  Tournaments will be decided by the manager of each respective team, and these fees are extra.  This includes all local tournaments and the possibility of out-of-state tournaments.  

CAN WE PLAY FOR MULTIPLE TEAMS?  In short, NO.  We are not a club team that has 2-3 teams per age division.  Our teams will carry 11-12 players and that is it.  If you commit to another team during our season, it creates enormous stress on that team and the manager to field a competitive team when there are conflicts or to run effective practices.     

In addition, as a league, we work hard to protect players from injury.  This includes injury from fatigue.  If your son/daughter is playing for multiple teams, neither team/coach has the ability to effectively track your players' health.   We won't attempt to parent for you, but we strongly encourage you to limit your child to 1 baseball team at a time.  And no, your son/daughter cannot play both select and rec ball at DPYB - that part we can control.
